News Update

I realized I have not posted in over a month...probably because no one is reading my blog!!!! But, I decided that of course no one will read it if I don't post!

So, where to start??? Easter pagaent at Pioneer Drive this year...I played in the orchestra, and it was an AMAZING experience. I can't wait to do it again next year! I have always loved playing music, but there is just something even more special about playing music to help tell the story of Jesus.

My trip to Chicago last week was absolutely phenomenal. I went with 17 other people as a part of an Honors colloquium I was taking that was studying Wagner's Ring Cycle opera in depth. This is an amazing work that completely changed the style and form of opera during its day. This work is where many of our stereotypical images of opera are founded. You know the fat lady with horns and gold braids? "It ain't over till the fat lady sings?" That's this opera!!! The stage production was pretty modernistic (our group was quite disappointed by the lack of pyrotechnics!!)...apparently that's the new trend, but the music was FANTASTIC. I had an absolute blast. The rest of the time we spent exploring the city, hitting up museums and great food and shopping. I had a great time getting to know some new people and, of course, hanging out with old friends, too.

Last new thing and then I'll quit for today. I've started my Peer Leader training for next year. For those of you unfamiliar with that term, I'm going to be part of an ACU program to minister to the incoming freshmen next fall. Every incoming student is assigned to a University Seminar class. It is required for everyone to take this class, and it is designed to help acclamate the student to ACU and ease the transition from high school to college. The peer leader's job is to assist the faculty member instructing the class by being a liason between the professor and the students. I get to minister to the freshmen as the voice of experience, and I am so pumped!!! My group will consist of all elementary education majors like myself, and I will be partnering with Dana Hood in this class. Please pray for me throughout the months to come as I prepare to reach out to these freshmen next fall.

Well, that's about it for today! Please feel free to post a comment and let me hear about what's going on in your life! Also, if any of you are interested in keeping tabs on Jon Westin Bennett, one of the boys who was in the wreck at Highland back in January and is still being treated at Cook's Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth for an infection that will not go away in his broken leg, then please check out his blog, http://wesbennett.blogspot.com.

Talk to you guys later!
